CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University men's basketball team lost to Holy Family University, 85-76 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The result gives the Cougars an 11-11 record overall and a 7-7 mark in league play. The Tigers improve to 17-6, 11-3 CACC.
A 10-0 run midway through the first half put Holy Family up, 27-16 with 8:19 on the clock. Caldwell answered with an 11-2 run, sparked by a three-pointer from freshman guard
Tyler Drews (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), that made the score 29-27 Tigers with 4:01 left in the half. Holy Family closed out the half with an 11-3 spree to take a 41-30 edge into the halftime break. Isaiah Gans had 13 points in the half to lead all players, as the Tigers shot 53.6 percent from the field.
The Cougars cut the deficit to five, 54-49 after a three from junior guard
Dawan Lighty (Paterson, NJ/Kennedy) with 13 minutes remaining. Hot shooting kept Holy Family in control, as the Tigers pushed the lead back to 10, 75-65 with three minutes left. Twice Caldwell came within five points, including 79-74 with just over a minute to play. But Holy Family wrapped up the win with a 6-2 run to close out the game. The Tigers hit 12 threes and shot 52.9 percent from the field for the game compared to 43.1 percent for the Cougars.

Billy McDonald (North Haven CT/North Haven) each scored 18 points to lead Caldwell, with Lighty adding four assists and two steals. Junior guard
Salvatore Vitello (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) scored 12 points and junior guard
Brian Kenny (Howell, NJ/Jackson Memorial) had 11 points. Gans and Marvin Crawford each had 19 points to pace the Tigers.
Caldwell faces Post University on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 10 in another CACC contest. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
