CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's basketball team hit 10 three-pointers en route to an 85-76 triumph over visiting Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday night in the George R. Newman Center. The victory gives the Cougars a 12-10 record on the season, including a 9-4 mark in conference play. The Golden Falcons drop to 4-16, 3-10 CACC.
Caldwell led the entire first half, opening the game with a 21-9 run sparked by two three-pointers and eight points from freshman guard
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY/Christ the King). Felician was able to reduce the deficit to three twice in the half, including 29-26 following a basket by Eliana Scanlon with 6:24 on the clock. But the Cougars were able to maintain the upper hand, closing the half with an 8-2 run to lead, 44-34 at the break. Drogsler scored 15 points in the half, while senior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) posted 12 points and 14 rebounds.
After the Golden Falcons scored the first four points of the second half, Caldwell pushed the lead up to 14, 65-51 with 9:14 remaining. The score was 65-56 when two threes from sophomore guard
Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) sparked a 10-0 run for the largest lead of the game, 75-56 with 5:45 to play. Following Pilla's fifth three-pointer of the game that put the Cougars ahead, 78-60, Felician reeled off 12 straight points to get back in the game, 78-72 with a minute left. But Caldwell hit 7-of-8 from the line down the stretch, including 5-of-6 from senior guard
Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic), to give the Cougars the season sweep of Felician.
Caswell finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds, while Pilla also scored 23 points on 5-of-12 shooting from three-point range to lead Caldwell. Drogsler was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and tallied career highs of 20 points and nine rebounds in her best game as a Cougar. Junior forward
Lisa Rovatsos (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) added 10 points and seven boards, with Coscia dishing out seven assists to go with seven points. Coscia, who recorded her 500th career assist on Saturday at Philadelphia University, holds the NCAA-era school record with 507 assists. Ashley Morris led Felician with 25 points, while Scanlon contributed 21 points and nine assists in the loss.
The Cougars continue CACC play with a home game against Holy Family University on Saturday, Feb. 7. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
