ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- The Caldwell University women's basketball team lost their first conference game of the season as they fell to the Dominican College Chargers 87-51 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars drop their first CACC game of the season as they fall to 4-4 and 2-1 in conference play, while the Chargers improve to 4-4 and 3-0 in conference play.
Dominican scored the first seven points of the game to take a lead at the 7:48 mark of the opening quarter. Caldwell chipped away as sophomore
Maura Kelty (Barrington, RI) scored six points and sophomore
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, MA) converted a three-point play to pull the Cougars to within a point at 10-9 with 6:02 left in the first quarter.
The Chargers used a 19-5 run to push their lead to double digits early in the second quarter. Freshman
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, NJ) connected on a three at second quarter buzzer but Dominican held the lead heading into the break. The Cougars were unable to close the gap in the second half as the Chargers held a double digit lead into the second half. Dominican held the advantage in shooting 53.0%-29.2% as well as a 45-32 rebounding edge for the game.
For the Cougars, Kelty netted 10 points and three rebounds, while Sanders totaled 10 points and three boards. Sophomore
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY) posted five rebounds and three assists, while senior
Nicole Angelo (Mt. Laurel, NJ) finished with eight points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Cougars wrap up their road trip as they head to Post University on Tuesday, December 8 at 5:30 pm.
