Women’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten in CACC Play; Down Nyack 76-72

NYACK, N.Y.- Senior Nicole Angelo (Mt. Laurel, NJ) led four scorers in double figures with 21 points as the Caldwell University women's basketball team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 76-72 victory against the Nyack College Warriors.
 
The Cougars up their mark to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, while the Warriors fall to 3-4 and 1-1 in conference play.
 
Caldwell jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first six minutes of play as Angel connected on one of her five triples in the game. The Warriors chipped away, closing to within two points but a late bucket by sophomore Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, MA) gave the Cougars a 22-18 lead after the first quarter.
 
Angelo drained a trifecta early in the second quarter but Nyack rallied back to tie the score at 27 at the 6:44 mark. The teams traded leads with the Warriors pushing ahead by five points at 36-31 late in the quarter. Junior Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY) connected on back to back three-pointers to pull the Cougars even at 37 with just over a minute to play. Nyack connected on a pair of free throws in the final minute to lead 39-37 at halftime.
 
The Cougars took the lead early in the third quarter on jumpers by Angelo and O'Driscoll. The teams traded leads over the next two minutes with Nyack holding a 45-43 lead with 7:35 left in the third quarter. Sophomore Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, MA) hit a pair of free throws, while Angelo drained back-to-back triples to put the Cougars in the lead for the rest of the way. Angelo added another one from downtown late in the quarter to help Caldwell build a 56-50 lead after three quarters.
 
Caldwell continued their strong play into the fourth quarter as they pushed the advantage to as much as 14 points at 71-57 with 2:51 left in the game. The Warriors trimmed the lead but only got as close as four points with under 30 seconds to play. Sanders connected on a pair from the charity stripe to ice the game.
 
For the Cougars, Angelo shot 5-for-8 from downtown, finishing with 21 points and three assists. Sanders totaled 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while O'Driscoll tallied 14 points, four boards and three steals. Pilla recorded 14 points and three rebounds.
 
The Cougars travel to Dominican College on Saturday, December 5 for a CACC clash against the Chargers at 1:30 pm.
