Women’s Soccer Downs #4 Wilmington; Advances to CACC Semifinals

CALDWELL, N.J.- Senior Sarina Soriano (San Jose, CA) got the Caldwell University women's soccer team off to an early lead as they defeated #4 Wilmington University in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars will play top seed Georgian Court on Thursday at Post University.
 
The Cougars improve to 10-8-1 overall, while the Wildcats end their season at 10-8-0
 
Soriano put the Cougars in the lead midway through the first half as she tallied her team-best seventh goal of the season in the 24th minute of the play.
 
In the second half, senior Kelly Folk (Jackson, NJ) took a shot that was saved, with the rebound coming back right back to her and Folk booted it home for a 2-0 Caldwell lead in the 78th minute.
 
The Wildcats cut the lead in half as they tallied a goal in the 82nd minute of play but failed to net the equalizer. Wilmington posted two shots in the final 15 minutes including one with 17 seconds left that went wide.
 
The Cougars held the advantage in shots 12-9, and also held the edge in corner kicks 3-2.
 
In net, freshman goalie and reigning CACC Rookie of the Year Mary Kanzler (East Northport, NY) continued her solid play in net as she recorded two saves.  
 
The Cougars will take on #1 seed Georgian Court University in the semifinals on Thursday, November 5 at 11 am at LaMoy Field on the campus of Post University in Waterbury, CT.
