Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Escudero Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer to Overtime Victory

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Freshman Joaquin Escudero (San Sebastian, Spain) netted the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Caldwell University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Dominican College.

The Cougars improve to 3-10-1 overall and 2-6-1 in CACC play, while the Chargers fall to 5-9-0 and 5-5-0 in conference play.

Both teams found the back of the net early in the contest with the Cougars breaking the scoreless tie first. Sophomore Sam Odell (Surrey, England) netted the first goal of the game in the 12th minute to put the Cougars up 1-0. Dominican pulled even five minutes later and the score remained tied for next 73 minutes of regulation.

Dominican held the first half advantage in shots 9-2 but the Cougars outshot the Chargers in the second half 6-4. The score was tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes and the teams headed to overtime.

Both teams had shots early in the first overtime period but it was Escudero that ended the game with 13 seconds left in the clock to seal the game for the Cougars. Freshman Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, UK) and Noah Pederson (San Jose, CA) were credited with the rare double assist to give Caldwell the victory.

Senior goalie Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ) was stellar in net as he finished with six saves.

The Cougars host Holy Family University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Saturday, October 24 at 2:00 pm at Caldwell Field.
