Caldwell Handles Post in Women’s Hoops, 81-54

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's basketball team earned a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over North Division rival Post University, 81-54 Wednesday evening in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars remain in first place in the CACC North with a 6-1 league mark while improving to 9-7 overall. The Eagles fall to 3-12, 3-3 CACC.

After falling behind by as many as seven points early, Caldwell reeled off a 20-4 run to turn a 13-6 defcit into a 26-17 lead with four minutes to play in the first half. Freshman forward Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, MA/Sharon) scored six points in the run, while junior guard Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) and freshman guard Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY/Christ the King) hit threes. Post pulled to within five points following a three-pointer from Nicole Viselli at the 2:40 mark, but the Cougars closed out the period with a 6-2 run to take a 38-29 advantage at the half. Senior forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) had eight points and 13 rebounds in the first 20 minutes.

At the start of the second half, Caldwell used a 16-6 spree, capped by a three from senior guard Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic), that extended the lead to 56-37 with 13:38 remaining. Two more three-pointers by Angelo sparked a 12-0 run midway through the half for a 70-42 bulge. The lead grew to as many as 31 points, as the Eagles never came closer than 24 points over the final 11 minutes of the game.

The Cougars dominated the glass, 56-35 while out-scoring Post in the paint, 42-20. Caswell grabbed a career-high 22 rebounds to go with 10 points and three steals for her 13th double-double of the season. Sophomore guard Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) led the offense with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists, while O'Driscoll added 14 points. Angelo was 3-of-5 from three-point range en route to 11 points and four assists, while Coscia dished out six assists to go with seven points. Deaisia Acklin scored 15 points to lead Post.

Caldwell takes on CACC foe Dominican College on Saturday, Jan. 10, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
