ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Caldwell University women's basketball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at Dominican College, 82-64 Saturday afternoon at the Hennessy Center. The Cougars fall to 9-8 overall and 6-2 in the conference, while the Lady Chargers improve to 6-9, 4-2 CACC.
Dominican built a 14-8 lead early before Caldwell used three-pointers from freshman guard
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY/Christ the King) and junior guard
Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) to spark a 12-2 run for a 20-16 advantage. The Lady Chargers responded by scoring 17 of the next 18 points, including seven points by Rebecca Rabeiro, that put the hosts on top, 33-21 with 2:19 left in the half. The run helped Dominican take a 35-26 halftime edge despite 10 points and two threes from Drogsler in the period.
In the second half, the Lady Chargers maintained the upper hand by shooting 55.9 percent from the field after halftime. Dominican pushed the lead to as many as 20 points en route to winning its fourth straight game against Caldwell at home.
Angelo led the Cougars with 16 points while hitting 4-of-9 from three-point range. Senior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) tallied 11 points and 15 rebounds, with senior guard
Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) adding eight points and six assists. Lisa Bouffard paced Dominican with 17 points and eight rebounds, as five Lady Chargers scored in double figures.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 21 with a rematch against Dominican. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
