CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's basketball team lost to USciences, 81-62 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Sunday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars drop to 10-9 overall and 7-3 in league play with the loss, while the Devils win their 12th in a row to improve to 14-4, 10-1 CACC.
USciences took control of the game with a 12-2 run on three three-pointers from Colleen Walsh and one by Brianne Traub to lead 22-12 midway through the first half. The Devils ended up making 8-of-11 from three-point range in the first half to take a 38-27 advantage at the half. Walsh hit 4-of-4 from beyond the arc as the Devils shot 59.1 percent from the field overall compared to 47.8 percent for Caldwell.
Momentum stayed with the visitors into the second half, as the lead grew to as many as 22 points. The Cougars came as close as 12 points but could not overcome the Devils' three-point barrage that produced a total of 14 threes in 24 attempts for the game.
Caldwell was led by senior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) with 24 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard
Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) added 12 points, while freshman guard
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY/Christ the King) delivered five assists to go with five rebounds and two steals. Traub paced the Devils with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Walsh ended up with 17 points.
The Cougars continue CACC play with a game at Nyack College on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Nyack, N.Y.
