NYACK, N.Y. – The Caldwell University women's basketball team defeated Nyack College on the road, 83-54 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday night at the Bowman Gymnasium. The victory gives the Cougars an 11-9 record on the season, including an 8-3 mark in league play. The Warriors lose to Caldwell for the second time this season and fall to 2-16, 2-10 CACC.
The Cougars took control of the game midway through the first half with a 22-4 run for a 41-17 lead with six minutes left in the first half. Junior forward
Lisa Rovatsos (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) and sophomore guard
Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) each scored five points in the run, while Pilla and junior guard
Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) hit threes. Nyack responded with a 12-4 run, as Caldwell eventually took a 48-29 bulge into the halftime break. The Cougars shot 35.3 percent from the field in the first half but went to the free throw line 25 times, making 22 (88.0 percent), compared to 2-of-4 for Nyack.
Pilla helped Caldwell get off to a good start in the second half with two threes and senior
Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) also hit a three as the Cougars led 59-31. The lead expanded to as many as 32 points, as Nyack came as close as 22 points the rest of the way. Caldwell limited the Warriors to just 8-of-27 shooting from the field after halftime while shooting 44.0 percent from the floor to clinch the win.
Pilla led all scorers with 20 points, with senior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) registering 15 points and 18 rebounds while shooting 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. Freshman guard
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, MA/Sharon) also scored 15 points, while Coscia contributed six points and six assists. Raven Makins paced Nyack with 17 points and seven boards.
The Cougars take on Philadelphia University in a CACC contest on Saturday, Jan. 31. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
