Cougars Sweep Nyack in Volleyball

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University volleyball team defeated Nyack College, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Tuesday evening in the George R. Newman Center. The victory gives the Cougars an 8-6 record on the season, including a 4-1 mark in conference play. The Warriors drop to 0-18, 0-6 CACC.

Caldwell hit .281 in the first set and received three kills apiece from senior right side Erica Harrell (Richardson, TX/Plano East), sophomore outside hitter Rachael DiLeonardo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame), freshman outside hitter Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha) freshman middle blocker Narae Wadsworth (Reno, NV/Wooster) in a 25-19 win. Auyong added four kills in the second set, as the Cougars won 25-17 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Nyack fought back in the third set and kept the score close, eventually pulling to within one, 23-22. But a kill by Wadsworth and a Warriors attack error gave the Cougars a 25-22 victory to sweep the match.

Wadsworth had four of her team-high 10 kills in the third set. She finished with a .500 hitting percentage and three total blocks. DiLeonardo and Auyong each had eight kills for the match, with Auyong collecting 12 digs. Senior Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica) recorded 13 assists and 11 digs, while freshman setter Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, TX/Johnson) had 15 assists and eight digs. Senior libero Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) led all players with 16 digs. Nyack was paced by Alexus Winters with 12 kills and 10 digs.

Caldwell faces non-conference foe Molloy College in the Newman Center on Thursday, Oct. 1, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
