CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over visiting Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win marked the fourth consecutive shutout for the Cougars, who improve to 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in league play. The loss drops the Wildcats to 2-6, 2-3 CACC.
Caldwell took the upper hand in the sixth minute, when a long pass from senior forward
Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) found freshman defender
Randall Stafford (Redwood City, CA/Woodside) on the right. Stafford's shot on her first touch from 25 yards out went into the left side of the goal for a 1-0 lead. Then in the 61st minute, freshman midfielder
Shelagh Kerrisk (Keansburg, NJ/St. John Vianney) collected a loose ball near the top of the penalty area and blasted a shot past Wilmington goalkeeper Julia Brown to put the Cougars up 2-0. Both goals were the first career goals for Stafford and Kerrisk.
Senior goalkeeper
Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard, making three saves. Brown recorded six saves, as Caldwell out-shot Wilmington, 18-8. The Cougars haven't surrendered a goal since a 2-1 win over Goldey-Beacom College on Sept. 14, spanning nearly 487 minutes.
Caldwell plays a non-conference game at LIU Post on Tuesday, Sept. 30, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Brookville, N.Y.
