CALDWELL, N.J. – Senior forward
Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) scored twice as the Caldwell University women's soccer team defeated NYIT, 4-0 in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win gives the Cougars a 2-3-2 record on the season, while the Bears fall to 1-4-1.
Migoya opened the scoring in the eighth minute, when she was fouled in the penalty area by an NYIT defender. She converted the ensuing penalty kick by beating Bears' goalkeeper Brianna Bollettieri to her right for a 1-0 lead. Nine minutes into the second half, Migoya received a pass up the middle from senior midfielder
Emily Boehler (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) and scored her second goal of the game with a shot from 22 yards out.
Boehler then made it 3-0 less than four minutes later with a shot from 15 yards out. A long throw from freshman defender
Randall Stafford (Redwood City, CA/Woodside) was deflected by a Bears' defender to Boehler, who turned and scored her first goal of the season. In the 80th minute, junior forward
Remi Piccirillo (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored an unassisted goal to give Caldwell a 4-0 lead.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kylie Whalen (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) made three saves for her first shutout of the season, as the Cougars enjoyed a 21-7 advantage in shots. Bollettieri recorded eight saves for NYIT.
