Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Caldwell Women’s Soccer Upends Philadelphia on Road, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman midfielder Shelagh Kerrisk (Keansburg, NJ/St. John Vianney) scored the game's only goal in the 50th minute to give the Caldwell University women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Philadelphia University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Thursday afternoon at Ravenhill Field. The Cougars are now 6-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in league play, while the Rams (7-2-1) suffer their first CACC loss to fall to 6-1 in the conference.

After foul was called on Philadelphia about 22 yards out from the Rams' goal, Kerrisk took the free kick, which deflected off the wall and past goalkeeper Courtney Shaw for a 1-0 lead. That's all the Cougars would need, as senior goalkeeper Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) and the Caldwell defense kept the Rams from evening the score.

Franchi finished with five saves, all in the second half, to record her fourth shutout of the season and 12th of her career. Shaw ended up with seven saves for Philadelphia.

Caldwell's next game is Saturday, Oct. 18 against Holy Family University in a rematch of last year's CACC Tournament final, won by the Cougars, 3-0. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m. at Caldwell Field.
