LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's tennis team edged Georgian Court University, 5-4 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference dual Friday night at the Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center. The victory is the third in a row for the Cougars, who are now 4-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Lions fall to 1-8, 0-5 CACC.

Caldwell earned its first point of the dual at No. 3 doubles, where sophomore Koumudi Thirunagaru (San Ramon, CA/Homestead) and freshman Claudia Romano (Salerno, Italy/Boulder Creek) won their match by the score of 8-5. Thirunagaru also was victorious at No. 5 singles in straight sets, with freshman Rebecca Ryan (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Koinonia Acad.) and junior Emily Slater (Cliffwood Beach, NJ/Old Bridge) winning their matches at first and second singles, respectively.

The deciding point came at No. 3 singles, with senior Gwynne Alden (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) outlasting Annmarie Wodell, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 to give the Cougars the victory. This is the first time Caldwell has won three duals in a row since 2011, when the Cougars finished the season with a 6-6 record.

Next up for Caldwell is a CACC dual at Concordia College on Tuesday, Oct. 7, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
