LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Caldwell University volleyball team saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon at the GCU Wellness Center. The Cougars are now 16-8 overall and 11-3 in the conference, while the Lions improve to 15-12 overall, 11-3 CACC.
After Caldwell took the first set, 25-22, Georgian Court swept the next three sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17 to take the match. The Lions recorded 52 kills compared to 38 for the Cougars while out-hitting Caldwell .233 to .175.
Sophomore outside hitter
Rachael DiLeonardo (West Chester, OH/Mount Notre Dame) led the Cougars with 10 kills to go with 10 digs, while freshman outside hitter
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha) added nine kills, eight digs and two blocks. Senior setter
Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica) contributed eight kills, 12 assists and six digs, with freshman setter
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, TX/Johnson) delivering 24 assists. Senior libero
Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) tallied 11 digs. Tatiana Rodriguez and Jhoan Agosto Rivera led GCU with 15 and 13 kills, respectively.
The Cougars play a non-conference match at Queens College on Monday, Oct. 27, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Flushing, N.Y.
