NYACK, N.Y. – The Caldwell University women's soccer team scored two second-half goals and overcame inclement weather to defeat Nyack College, 2-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Mosley Field. The Cougars improve to 7-5-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the conference with the win, while the Warriors fall to 3-13, 3-7 CACC.
Caldwell dominated the first half, peppering the Nyack net with 10 shots on goal. But Warriors goalkeeper Madeline Barbarino was up to the task, making all 10 saves to keep the game scoreless. With about five minutes remaining in the first half, a lightning delay was called, stopping action for 20 minutes.
When the game resumed, the two teams played in a heavy rain. Despite the difficult conditions, junior defender
Sarina Soriano (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty) scored an unassisted goal in the 58th minute for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. Then in the 66th minute, senior forward
Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) sent a pass from the right to senior forward
Melissa Stec (Salt Point, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes), who scored her third goal of the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) made two saves for her fifth shutout of the season. Barbarino finished with 13 saves for Nyack, as the Cougars held a 20-6 advantage in shots.
Caldwell continues CACC play on Thursday, Oct. 23 with a home game against Concordia College. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
