ALBANY, N.Y. – A penalty kick in the fifth minute of overtime allowed the College of St. Rose to defeat the Caldwell College men's soccer team, 2-1 in the season opener for both teams Thursday night at Sullivan Field. The Cougars were 6-10-2 in 2012, while the Golden Knights were 1-15 a year ago.
After the teams played to a 1-1 tie through 90 minutes, St. Rose's Nick Iuorno drew a foul in the penalty area in the 95th minute. Juan Garzon converted the ensuing penalty kick to lift the hosts to the victory.

Christian Castro (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) less than four minutes after halftime. Dylan Klippenstein pulled the Golden Knights even in the 64th minute, one-timing a cross from Jacob Sand to tie the score at 1-1.

Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) matched his career high with six saves for Caldwell. Christian Esposito recorded two saves, as St. Rose held a 24-6 advantage in shots.
Next up for Caldwell is another non-league game at West Chester University on Monday, Sept. 9. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in West Chester, Pa.
