CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College men's soccer team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to visiting Bloomfield College, 1-0 Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The loss gives the Cougars a 4-7 record on the season, including a 2-5 mark in league play. The Deacons are now 2-8, 2-4 CACC.
The only goal of the game was scored in the 38th minute, when Shaunavon deSouza received a pass from Claude Allen down the right line, dribbled behind the Cougar defense and beat sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee). Caldwell came close to tying the score in the second half, but came up just short. A free kick by junior defender
Kyle Felton (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) hit the cross bar in the 61st minute, and a header by freshman defender
Sjoerd Blankenstein (Driebergen, Netherlands/Openbaar) off a corner kick was saved off the line by the Deacons in the final minute of play.
Hartmann finished with four saves for the Cougars. Arthur Clapot notched three saves for Bloomfield, which out-shot Caldwell, 18-9.
Caldwell plays a non-conference game at Mercy College on Thursday, Oct. 10, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
