CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College men's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The result gives the Cougars a 6-9-1 record on the season, including a 3-6-1 mark in the conference. The Warriors are now 7-6-2, 4-4-1 CACC and three points ahead of Caldwell for the eighth and final spot in the CACC Tournament.
After a scoreless first half, freshman forward
Haakon Sulheim (Lillehammer, Norway/Lillehammer) put the Cougars ahead with a goal in the 47th minute. Sulheim stole the ball from a defender and blasted a shot into the right side of the goal from 25 yards out for his CACC-leading 15th goal of the season. The lead would not last long, however, as Alex Schmidt scored 96 seconds later to tie the score at 1-1. That would conclude the scoring, as neither team was able to convert in regulation or through two 10-minute overtime periods.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had three saves on the day, including a save on a shot by Toni Mutschler in the first overtime period. Tom Lohman recorded four saves for Nyack.
The Cougars host Georgian Court University in a CACC game on Saturday, Oct. 26, as they look to stay in contention for a CACC Tournament berth. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
