BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Caldwell College men's soccer team tallied two first-half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory over Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday night at Foley Field. The win gives the Cougars a 3-4-1 record overall, including a 2-2 mark in league play, while the Deacons drop to 4-4, 2-1 CACC.
In the 23rd minute, senior forward Chris Skarbelis (N. Andover, MA/Leonardtown) finished a pass from junior forward Kris Olsen-Barr (Brick Twp., NJ/Brick Twp.) for his first goal of the season. Then in the 40th minute, senior defender Brendan Hughes (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) scored off a free kick by senior forward Facundo Zalazar (Buenos Aires City, Argentina/San Agustin) to put the Cougars on top, 2-0. Diego Mayanga found the net 88 seconds after Hughes' goal to make the score 2-1 Caldwell.
Neither team was able to score in the second half, as freshman goalkeeper Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and the Cougar defense made the one-goal lead stand. Hartmann finished with five saves for the game, while Kieran Moran had four saves for Bloomfield.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 5, when they host Dominican College in a CACC contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
