CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's tennis team lost a close Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference dual to Georgian Court University, 6-3 at the Caldwell College Tennis Courts on Tuesday. The result gives the Cougars a 1-5 record on the season, including an 0-4 mark in the conference, while the Lions are now 2-4, 2-2 CACC.
The Cougars' No. 1 doubles tandem of sophomore Briana Gaspich (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) and freshman Emily Slater (Cliffwood Beach, NJ/Old Bridge) earned Caldwell's only point in doubles with a 9-8 win over Melissa Dennis and Maria Leal. Gaspich also won her match at fourth singles in three sets over Nicole Way, while sophomore Gwynne Alden (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) was victorious at second singles over Victoria Gaffney, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Alyssa Brillante (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) suffered a close loss to Heather Jensen at fifth singles in a third-set tie-breaker, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
The Cougars host Holy Family University on Saturday, Sept. 29 in a CACC dual, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Caldwell College Tennis Courts.
