Men's Soccer Opens Season with Loss to No. 3 Ravens

Box Score

RINDGE, N.H. – The Caldwell College men's soccer team started its 2012 schedule with a 3-0 loss to Franklin Pierce University Saturday night at Sodexo Field. The Cougars were 7-9-2 in 2011, while the Ravens, ranked third in the NSCAA Division II Preseason Poll, advanced to the national semifinals last season.

The game remained scoreless until the 25th minute, when Daniel Donaldson converted a penalty kick following a foul in the penalty area. In the second half the Ravens scored in the 49th and 65th minutes to wrap up the win.

Freshman goalkeeper Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had six saves, including a beauty just before halftime off a blast from Nico Mueller. Hartmann dove to his right to deny Mueller from 20 yards out. Senior Brian Agostini (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) played the final eight minutes and made one save.

The Cougars play a non-conference game at Molloy College on Wednesday, Sept. 5, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
