CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College men's soccer team lost to Concordia College, 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars fall to 5-10-1 overall and 4-6 in league play, while the Clippers are now 6-8-1, 4-6-1 CACC.
Caldwell got on the scoreboard first in the 34th minute, when a foul was called on the Clippers in their own penalty area. Senior midfielder D.J. Kafer (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) converted the ensuing penalty kick for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. Concordia pulled even three minutes after halftime on a goal by Victor Ruiz, who finished a rebound off a shot from Jesus Alvarez-Riesco. Then in the 53rd minute, Ekene Okereke received a through-ball from Shamil Adamou and scored to put the Clippers on top, 2-1. With the Cougars pressing for the equalizer, Ruiz netted an insurance goal in the 88th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) notched one save for the Cougars, while Ruel Gordon had eight saves for Concordia. Caldwell held the upper hand in shots (20-9) and corner kicks (9-0).
The Cougars complete the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 28 against Dominican College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
