CALDWELL, N.J. – Sophomore defender Steve Petrosino (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored the game's only goal in the 49th minute to give the Caldwell College men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference battle Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars improve to 5-3 in the conference while evening their overall record at 6-6-1. The Golden Falcons drop to 4-7-2, 3-5-2 CACC with the loss.
After a scoreless first half, Caldwell won a throw-in deep in Felician territory. A long throw by sophomore midfielder Yousef Elhusseini (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) made it through the penalty area to Petrosino, who blasted a shot past goalkeeper Daniel Wroblewski for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. The Cougars played stout defense the rest of the way, holding the Golden Falcons to just two shots after halftime. Caldwell out-shot Felician 11-4 for the game.
Freshman goalkeeper Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was required to make just one save to record his second shutout of the season. Wroblewski recorded four saves in goal for Felician. This is the first time the Cougars have won at least five conference games in a season since the 2008 squad went 8-1-1 to capture the CACC regular-season title.
Caldwell plays a non-conference game at Queens College on Thursday, Oct. 18, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Flushing, N.Y.
