CALDWELL, N.J. - A goal by freshman Steve Petrosino (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) in the 78th minute proved to be the difference as the Caldwell College men's soccer team defeated Concordia College, 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The victory is the first conference win of the season for the Cougars, who are now 4-3 overall and 1-2 in league play. The Clippers fall to 1-5, 1-2 CACC.

With the score tied at 1-1, Petrosino (right) got on the end of a corner kick by sophomore Kristopher Bistre (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) at the far post and headed the ball into the goal for a 2-1 Caldwell lead. Concordia's best chance to tie the score came in the 83rd minute, when David Mero's header appeared labeled for the left side of the goal. But junior goalkeeper Brian Agostini (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) dove to his right and made the save to keep the Cougars on top.

Caldwell opened the scoring in the 17th minute, when sophomore forward Mosiah Whyte (Coram, NY/Newfield) one-timed a pass from junior forward Facundo Zalazar (Buenos Aires City, Argentina/San Agustin) over goalkeeper Oscar Acosta-Mendez and into the goal for a 1-0 lead. It was Whyte's team-leading ninth goal of the season. Mero tied the score for the Clippers with a goal off an assist from Xhovano Dardha in the 43rd minute, setting up Petrosino's dramatic game-winner.

Agostini finished with a career-high 10 saves, as the Clippers held a 22-14 advantage in shots. Acosta-Mendez had two saves for Concordia.

The Cougars host Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, Sept. 24 as a part of Caldwell's homecoming festivities. The CACC game begins at 1:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
