CALDWELL, N.J. - A late goal in the 88th minute allowed Bloomfield College to defeat the Caldwell College men's soccer team, 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 6-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play, while the Deacons improve to 7-6-1, 5-3-1 CACC.
Caldwell broke a scoreless tie in the 41st minute, when freshman forward Evan Teitelbaum (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) stole the ball from a Bloomfield defender and shot the ball off the inside of the left post and into the net for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes after halftime, Steven Hobart one-timed a corner kick from Terry Gibbs past Caldwell junior goalkeeper Brian Agostini (N. Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) to tie the score at 1-1. With overtime looming, Juan Ramirez won a loose ball and passed to Gibbs, whose shot from the left side beat Agostini at the 87:20 mark for a 2-1 lead. A header by freshman Dylan Ross (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) off a long throw-in went just wide in the 89th minute, as the Deacons held on for the win.
Agostini ended up with a career-high 10 saves for Caldwell in a solid effort. Daniel Hyde made two saves for Bloomfield, which out-shot Caldwell 24-9 for the game.
The Cougars host Goldey-Beacom College in another CACC contest on Thursday, Oct. 20. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
