BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team lost to Bloomfield College, 1-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday afternoon at Watsessing Park. The result keeps the Cougars (1-4 overall) winless in the conference at 0-2, while the Deacons, who are ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA East Region rankings, improve to 5-1 overall, 2-0 CACC.
The Deacons scored the only goal they would need in the 49th minute. Terry Gibbs received a pass from Cristian Raigoza and placed a shot that grazed the underside of the crossbar and bounced in for a 1-0 lead. The Cougars were out-shot 21-9 but took six corner kicks compared to two for Bloomfield. Freshman Mosiah Whyte (Coram, NY/Newfield) put two shots on target in the loss.
Junior goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) kept the Cougars in the game with five saves, while Steven Alonso made two saves to record the shutout.
Next up for the Cougars is a CACC match at Philadelphia University on Saturday, Sept. 18. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
