CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match to Chestnut Hill College, 4-2 in the Cougars' home opener Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The loss came in the first conference game of the season for the Cougars, who are now 1-3 overall. The Griffins improve to 3-1.

Sophomore forward Facundo Zalazar (Buenos Aires City, Argentina/San Agustin), pictured, put the Cougars on top in the 19th minute, when he headed home a corner kick from freshman midfielder Kristopher Bistre (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) for a 1-0 lead. The Griffins tied the game in the 26th minute on a goal by Gavin Reid off an assist from Chris Wilson. Caldwell took advantage of another Bistre corner kick, as senior Rob Arena (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) scored on a header in the 33rd minute to restore the Cougars' lead. Again Chestnut Hill answered, as Bobby Stocklin knocked in a pass from Julian Fernandez less than two minutes before halftime to tie the game at 2-2.

The score remained tied until the 53rd minute, when Reid found the net for the second time in the game to give the Griffins their first lead of the day. Zalazar and junior midfielder Kieran Bisland (Paisley, Scotland/St. Andrew's) each had good scoring chances, but neither was able to get past goalkeeper Mike Goldstein. Then in the 87th minute, Carl Essenthier ended the Cougars' hopes with an insurance goal to make the score 4-2.

Goldstein finished with six saves for the Griffins, as Caldwell held a 19-12 advantage in shots and took 11 corner kicks compared to one for Chestnut Hill. Junior goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) tallied three saves for the Cougars.

Caldwell plays at Bloomfield College on Thursday, Sept. 16 in a CACC game. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Watessing Park.
