PACE DEFEATS COUGAR VOLLEYBALL IN THREE SETS

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Pace University, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 Friday night in the Goldstein Fitness Center. The loss gives the Cougars an overall record of 2-3, while the Setters improve to 4-1 on the season.

After trailing the entire first set en route to a 25-20 loss, the Cougars held the lead for part of the second set before surrendering seven of the final 10 points to fall 25-21. In the third set, Caldwell led 20-17, only to have Pace reel off six straight points to take control. The Cougars were able to hold off match point twice before a kill by Tamilee Webb gave the Setters a 25-23 win in the third set.

The Cougars were led by sophomore outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline), who had nine kills, and junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay), who had 22 assists to go with nine digs. Other defensive standouts included sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) with 17 digs, and junior Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) and sophomore Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive), who each tallied three blocks. Victoria Pompilus led the Setters with 11 kills.

The Cougars begin Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a match at Bloomfield College on Tuesday, Sept. 14. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Bloomfield, N.J.
