COUGARS BATTLE BACK TO BEAT HOLY FAMILY IN VOLLEYBALL

CALDWELL, N.J. - After dropping the first set, the Caldwell College volleyball team won the next three sets to defeat Holy Family University 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars remain unbeaten in the CACC with the win, improving to 9-0 in league play and 12-4 overall. The loss leaves the Tigers at 8-9 overall, 7-3 CACC.

In a close first set, Caldwell led 20-19 before the Tigers tallied five of the next six points for a 24-21 advantage. The Cougars held off set point three times, and took a 25-24 lead to pull to within one point of winning the set. But Holy Family took the next point, and with the set tied at 26-26, Jill Keeve gave the Tigers the win with two straight kills. Keeve finished the set with five kills.

Caldwell took control of the second set early and cruised to a 25-17 win. Sophomore right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) recorded six of the Cougars' 14 kills in the set. The Caldwell defense stepped up in the final two sets, forcing Holy Family to post negative hitting percentages while recording four blocks apiece in each set. The Tigers had 22 attack errors and 15 kills in the final two sets, won by Caldwell by the scores of 25-21 and 25-17. The victory avenges a five-set loss to the Tigers in a non-conference match at the New Haven Tournament on Sept. 4.

Mosher finished with a team-high 14 kills and a .281 hitting percentage to go with four total blocks. Junior middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) registered 12 kills and four blocks, and hit .250, while junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) had 40 assists and four service aces. Defensively, freshman middle blocker Kasey Bausch (Bellmore, NY/Holy Trinity) registered six blocks, sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore), pictured, notched 18 digs and senior outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had 17 digs. Keeve led all players with 15 kills.

The Cougars host Bloomfield College in a CACC match on Tuesday, Oct. 12. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
