ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team fell to Molloy College, 2-1 in a non-conference match at the Dean Skelos Complex Wednesday night. The loss drops the Cougars to 6-10-1 on the year, while the Lions improve to 4-11.
Molloy struck first with an unassisted goal by Zach Santangelo in the 24th minute for a 1-0 lead. Two minutes after halftime the Cougars pulled even on a goal by freshman forward Mosiah Whyte (Coram, NY/Newfield) off an assist from senior Andy Loughnane (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford), right. It was Whyte's team-leading eighth goal of the season. The game remained tied until Molloy's Mario Gagliano received a long throw from goalkeeper Michael Hunter, dribbled in and scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 69th minute. Whyte finished with five of Caldwell's eight shots in the game.
Junior goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) made seven saves for the Cougars, while Hunter tallied three saves for Molloy, which posted a 15-8 advantage in shots.
Caldwell wraps up the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 30 with a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game against Dominican College. The Cougars need a win or a tie to qualify for the CACC Tournament. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
