CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie through double overtime with Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars, who led 2-0 in the first half, are now 5-9-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the conference. The Golden Falcons move to 2-10-1, 2-6-1 CACC with the draw.
Caldwell opened the scoring in the 16th minute, with freshman forward Mosiah Whyte (Coram, NY/Newfield) scoring off a rebound from a shot by junior midfielder Kieran Bisland (Paisley, Scotland/St. Andrew's). Then in the 27th minute, Bisland dribbled down the left flank and sent a crossing pass to Whyte, who hit a shot on his first touch that found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. It was Whyte's team-leading sixth goal of the season.
With the game seemingly under control for Caldwell, a late lapse in the first half gave the Golden Falcons new life. As time was about to expire in the half, Kevin Sinic found Emre Guven with a pass from the left. Guven put the ball into the goal just six seconds before the end of the first half to cut the Cougars' lead to 2-1. Felician carried the momentum into the second half, and in the 56th minute Sinic gathered a loose ball and blasted a shot past junior goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) from 25 yards out to tie the game at 2-2.
The best chance for either team the rest of the way came with less than a minute to play in the second overtime period. Javi Perez had the ball on a Felician counterattack and, noticing that Londono was off his line, sent a shot from near midfield towards the open goal. Londono raced back and deflected the ball enough to send it off the right post and keep the game tied.
Londono finished with six saves for Caldwell, which was outshot 21-11 for the game. Felician's John Weber made two saves.
Caldwell hosts Wilmington University in another CACC battle on Saturday, Oct. 23, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
