RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Junior goalkeeper Steven DeAngelis (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) recorded a seven-save shutout in his first collegiate start to lift the Caldwell College men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday night at Tryon Field. The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 2-5, including a 2-1 mark in league play. The Golden Falcons fall to 2-9, 0-5 CACC.
Senior midfielder Justin Miller (Monroe, NJ/Monroe) tallied the only goal the Cougars would need in the 23rd minute off an assist by freshman midfielder Donald Kafer (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown). The score remained 1-0 Caldwell into the second half until freshman Facundo Zalazar (Buenos Aires City, Argentina/San Agustin) received a pass from junior forward Rob Arena (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) in the 49th minute and scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
In the 75th minute, the Cougars benefitted from an own goal when a Felician defender deflected the ball into the Golden Falcons' net trying to clear a corner kick by freshman Nick Bibbs (Ardmore, PA/Lower Merion). Then in the 83rd minute, senior midfielder Mark Costa (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) tallied the first goal of his career when he headed home a cross from sophomore forward William Yeates (Southampton, England/Thornden).
Felician out-shot the Cougars 24-17, but DeAngelis kept the Golden Falcons off the scoreboard with a career-high seven saves. David Lo Bue recorded five saves in goal for Felician.
