CONCORDIA OUTSCORES COUGARS IN MEN'S SOCCER, 4-3

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team lost an offensive battle to Concordia College, 4-3 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon. The result drops the Cougars to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Clippers, who joined the CACC this fall, pick up their first win of the season and improve to 1-6, 1-2 CACC.

Freshman forward Facundo Zalazar (Buenos Aires City, Argentina/San Agustin) opened the scoring just a minute, 43 seconds into the game when he scored his second goal of the season off an assist from junior defender Andrew Loughnane (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford). Concordia tied the game on a goal by Alessandro Persampieri in the ninth minute, then took a 2-1 lead six minutes later when Ulyses Salceda found the net. The Cougars answered quickly, knotting the score at 2-2 with the first career goal from freshman midfielder Donald Kafer (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) off a rebounded shot by senior midfielder Justin Miller (Monroe, NJ/Monroe) in the 19th minute.

Still in the first half, Rich Heredia gave the lead back to the host Clippers with a goal in the 27th minute. Caldwell pressed for the equalizer and the effort paid off with a goal by freshman forward William Yeates (Southampton, England/Thornden), pictured, in the 79th minute. With just 1:07 before the end of regulation, Heredia put Concordia on top for good with his second goal of the game off an assist from Daniel Espinoza.

Sophomore goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) recorded three saves for the Cougars, while Guilherme Ferreira made eight saves in a winning effort for Concordia. Caldwell held a 19-14 advantage in shots.

The Cougars host C.W. Post University in a non-conference game on Thursday, Sept. 24. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
