ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College women's tennis team opened the 2008 fall season with a 5-4 defeat at Molloy College in a non-conference dual Monday afternoon at the Rockville Centre Tennis Center. Junior Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) and sophomore Chiaki Saito (Tokyo, Japan) were victorious in both singles and doubles for the Cougars, who were 2-12 a year ago.
Saito made her debut in a Caldwell uniform a memorable one, defeating Alexandra Bonventre in straight sets at No. 1 singles. Frantellizzi earned an 8-1 decision over Angeline Asaro at No. 2 singles. Saito and Frantellizzi also combined to win at first doubles. The Cougars' other point was scored by freshman Olga Ndhlovu (Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield), who won her match at No. 3 singles. The Lions were victorious at second and third doubles and picked up straight-set wins at the bottom three singles positions to earn the team victory.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when they play at Philadelphia University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference dual.
