CALDWELL HANDLES CHESTNUT HILL IN MEN'S SOCCER, 4-1

CALDWELL, N.J. - After surrendering the first goal of the game, the Caldwell College men's soccer team battled back to defeat Chestnut Hill College, 4-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The result, which came in the Cougars' first home game of the 2008 season, gives Caldwell a 4-3 overall record, including a 2-0 mark in the conference. The Griffins fall to 0-7-1, 0-2 CACC.

Chestnut Hill got on the scoreboard first when Kyle Bardeer hit a shot from the right side that beat freshman goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) in the seventh minute. Less than 10 minutes later, senior defender Kevoi Walters (Clarendon, Jamaica/Clarendon) dribbled through traffic up the center of the field and passed the ball to sophomore forward Rob Arena (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) on the left flank. Arena then centered the ball to senior forward Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep), who scored his first goal of the season from 12 yards out to tie the game.

In the 24th minute, Arena set up junior midfielder Justin Miller (Monroe, NJ/Monroe) for his first goal of the year and a 2-1 Caldwell lead. Near the end of the first half, freshman forward Jonathan Costa (Mississauga, Ontario/Philip Pocock) deflected a free kick from sophomore midfielder Eirik Utheim (Trondheim, Norway/KVT) to Walters, who headed the ball past Griffins' goalkeeper PJ Tucker for a 3-1 advantage. Sophomore defender Andrew Loughnane (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) closed the scoring in the 69th minute, when he finished a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Bryan Broderick (West Keansburg, NJ/Raritan).

Londono earned the victory in his first career start and made three saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Steven DeAngelis (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) also played in goal for Caldwell. Tucker finished with five saves as the Cougars out-shot the Griffins 21-6.

Next up for Caldwell is a non-conference game against Assumption College on Sunday, Sept. 21. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
