BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - A pair of goals just a minute and 20 seconds apart midway through the second half allowed C.W. Post to defeat the Caldwell College men's soccer team, 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at the C.W. Post Soccer Field. The Cougars lost for the third time in four games to fall to 7-6 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 5-6.
With the game tied 0-0 in the 56th minute, Nick Malenagos headed home a free kick by Kevin McPhillips to put the Pioneers on top 1-0. Just 80 seconds later, Mark Whitehouse finished a crossing pass from Joe O'Rourke for a stunning two-goal lead. The Cougars put three shots on goal in the final eight minutes of play but were unable to get one past C.P. Post goalkeeper Ayrton Haddad, who finished with four saves for the shutout. Senior John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) made three saves in goal for Caldwell.
Next up for Caldwell is a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game against Wilmington University on Saturday, Oct. 11. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. at Caravel Academy in Bear, Del.
