WATERBURY, Conn. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team erased a two-goal deficit late in the second half to tie Post University, 2-2 in double overtime in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday afternoon at Lamoy Field. The result leaves the Cougars with an overall record of 10-6-1, including a 7-1-1 mark in league play, while the Eagles are now 10-4-2, 5-2-1 CACC.
After a scoreless first half, Francis Eno scored two goals about five minutes apart to put Post ahead 2-0 in the 60th minute. Johan Pineda assisted on both goals for the Eagles. Then in the 67th minute, senior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) tallied his team-leading 12th goal of the season on a free kick that cut the deficit to 2-1. With less than 10 minutes to play in regulation, a pass from senior forward Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep) found freshman midfielder Kieran Bisland (Paisley, Scotland/St. Andrew's), pictured, who notched his first career goal to tie the game at 2-2. The Cougars thought they won the game with a goal just before the end of regulation, but the officials ruled the ball crossed the goal line after the buzzer sounded. The two teams played two 10-minute overtime periods, with neither team scoring.
Senior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) recorded a season-best nine saves to allow the Cougars to stage the comeback. Dan Nadel played the first half for Post and had two saves, with Michael Aeschliman playing the final 65 minutes and making three saves.
The Cougars wrap up their CACC schedule with a home game against Nyack College on Tuesday, Oct. 28. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
