CALDWELL MEN'S SOCCER DOWNS PHILADELPHIA, 3-0

CALDWELL, N.J. - Senior forwards Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) and Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep) each tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Caldwell College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Philadelphia University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win gives the Cougars a 6-2 record in the conference (9-7 overall) with just two league games remaining. The Rams, who are transitioning to Division II from Division I, fall to 6-6-3 overall, 2-3-1 CACC.

After a scoreless first half, the Cougars got on the scoreboard in the 55th minute. Sartorio, pictured, took a pass from sophomore midfielder Eirik Utheim (Trondheim, Norway/KVT) and crossed the ball from the left side to Bennett, who one-timed the pass into the goal for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. It was Bennett's team-leading 11th goal of the season. In the 72nd minute, freshman forward Jonathan Costa (Mississauga, Ontario/Philip Pocock) headed home a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Bryan Broderick (West Keansburg, NJ/Raritan) for his sixth goal of the season. Just over five minutes later, Bennett returned the favor, dribbling past his defender before passing the ball to Sartorio, who notched his fifth of the year to make the score 3-0 in favor of the host Cougars.

Senior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) recorded two saves to earn his third shutout of the season and 15th of his career. Charles Custer played the first half in goal for the Rams and made four saves, while Jason Barber played the second  half and did not record a save. This is the second straight game in which the Cougars have scored three goals in the second half, following Thursday's 3-2 win at Bloomfield College.

Caldwell is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 23, when the Cougars play at Post University in an important CACC battle. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
