BEAR, Del. - A pair of goals less than two minutes apart allowed Wilmington University to erase a 1-0 deficit and defeat the Caldwell College men's soccer team, 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday night at Caravel Academy. The result leaves the Cougars with a 7-7 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in the conference, while the Wildcats improve to 9-3-1, 4-1 CACC.

Sophomore midfielder Eirik Utheim (Trondheim, Norway, KVT) gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal, his first as a Cougar, in the 31st minute. Shortly after the goal, a Wilmington player received a red card for a dangerous tackle, leaving the Wildcats with just 10 players for the remainder of the game. But the hosts came back in the second half to tie the game on a goal by Anthony Randazzo off an assist by Sargbah Tarpeh in the 55th minute.

Just a minute and 55 seconds later, Wilmington capitalized on a miscue by the Cougar defense. A pass back to goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) was off the mark, allowing Tarpeh to tap the ball into the open net for a 2-1 lead. Despite putting pressure on Wilmington's goal the rest of the game, the Cougars were unable to score, resulting in the team's fourth loss in five games.

The teams each had 10 shots, while Caldwell took 10 corner kicks to none for Wilmington. Ethan Kavanagh made five saves for the Wildcats.

Caldwell continues conference play with a road game against first-place Bloomfield College on Thursday, Oct. 16. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. at Watessing Park.
