CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman midfielder Bryan Broderick (West Keansburg, NJ/Raritan) scored twice as the Caldwell College men's soccer team erased a one-goal deficit to beat Post University, 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. With the win, the Cougars remain unbeaten in the conference at 3-0 and improve to 5-2-2 overall, while Post falls to 2-8 overall, 1-2 CACC.
Eurica Trowers put the Eagles on top 1-0 with a free kick from 25 yards out for his sixth goal of the season. In the 35th minute, Broderick took a long pass from senior defender Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and beat Eagles' goalkeeper Dan Nadel with a shot from 20 yards out to tie the game at 1-1. Junior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) scored the go-ahead goal in the 53rd minute, when he one-timed a pass from senior midfielder Nicholas Harriott (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Campion), pictured, for his team-leading fifth of the season. Eight minutes later, Broderick scored his second of the game and third of the season when he hit junior defender Kagiso Rhenoster's (Mafikeng, South Africa/Mmbatho) pass with his first touch into the goal for a 3-1 Caldwell lead.
Junior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) made one save for the win, while Nadel stopped six Cougar shots for Post. Caldwell held a 21-5 advantage in shots for the game.
Next up for the Cougars is a CACC match with Goldey-Beacom College that is a part of Caldwell's Homecoming celebration on Saturday, Sept. 29. The women's game starts at 11:00 a.m., with the men's game to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
