CALDWELL, N.J. - Two second-half goals by sophomore midfielder Justin Miller (Monroe, NJ/Monroe) lifted the Caldwell College men's soccer team to its fourth win in a row, a 3-0 victory over Bloomfield College Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win gives the Cougars a 4-1-2 overall record, including a 2-0 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Deacons drop to 1-4-1, 0-1-1 CACC with the loss.
The Cougars scored the only goal they would need in the 37th minute, when freshman midfielder Bryan Broderick (West Keansburg, NJ/Raritan) headed home a long throw-in by freshman defender Andrew Loughnane (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) for his first collegiate goal. Then in the 69th minute, Miller received a throw-in from junior defender Kagiso Rhenoster (Mafikeng, South Africa/Mmbatho) down the left side and beat Bloomfield goalkeeper Julian Gaviria from a sharp angle for a 2-0 lead. Ten minutes later, a long punt by junior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) was headed on by junior forward Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep) to Miller, who broke down the left flank again and scored his second goal of the game.
Plaugic recorded his third shutout of the season and second in a row by making five saves, while Gaviria stopped seven shots for the Deacons. The Cougars held a 22-10 advantage in shots.
Next up for Caldwell is a non-conference game at Concordia College on Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
