BENNETT SCORES IN OVERTIME TO BEAT MOLLOY

CALDWELL, N.J. - Junior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) scored the game-winning goal 55 seconds into overtime to give the Caldwell College men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Molloy College in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-1-2 on the season, while Molloy falls to 3-1-1.

With the game tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the Cougars controlled the ball deep in the Lions' half and earned a throw-in 20 yards from the endline. Junior defender Kagiso Rhenoster (Mafikeng, South Africa/Mmbatho) threw the ball into the Molloy penalty area, where it was headed toward the goal by sophomore midfielder Peter Carlsson (Lycke, Sweden). Molloy goalkeeper Russ Francome deflected the ball off the crossbar, only to have Bennett head home the rebound for the game-winner. The goal was Bennett's third of the season.

Junior forward Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep) put the Cougars up 1-0 in the 31st minute, when he collected a rebound off his own shot and scored into an empty net for his third tally of the season. Molloy answered in the 49th minute on Michael Topel's free kick from 19 yards out. Topel blasted a shot into the right corner of the goal for his second of the year.

Junior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) made four saves in a winning effort, while Francome stopped three shots for Molloy. The Cougars held a 12-9 advantage in shots.

Caldwell plays its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 15, when the Cougars face CACC newcomer Chestnut Hill College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
