PLAUGIC, COUGARS SHUT OUT AIC, 2-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) made a career-high eight saves as the Caldwell College men's soccer team blanked American International College, 2-0 in a non-conference match Monday afternoon at AIC Park. With the win, the Cougars improve to 7-3-3 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 2-9-3 overall.

The game was scoreless until midway through the second half, when freshman Franklin Nobre (Carteret, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep), pictured, took a pass from senior defender Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and chipped the ball over AIC goalkeeper Mathew Marcoux from 25 yards out. The goal was Nobre's first as a collegian. Less than seven minutes later, junior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) knocked in a rebound for his team-best eighth goal of the year and a 2-0 lead.

Plaugic, who now has five shutouts on the season and nine for his career, stopped five shots in the second half to preserve the win. Marcoux was credited with two saves for the Yellow Jackets.

The Cougars return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a game at Nyack College on Thursday, Oct. 11. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Nyack, N.Y.
