COUGARS DRAW WITH WILMINGTON, 1-1

BEAR, Del. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Wilmington University Saturday night in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at Caravel Academy. The result gives the Cougars a 6-3-3 record on the season, including a 4-1-1 mark in conference play, while the Wildcats (9-3-1 overall) remain ahead of Caldwell in the CACC standings in second place with a 5-1-1 conference record.

Caldwell took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, when junior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) headed home a long throw-in from sophomore midfielder Peter Carlsson (Lycke, Sweden) for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. The lead held until Anthony Randazzo tied the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 61st minute. Neither team was able to score through the end of regulation and the two 10-minute overtime periods.

Junior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) made one save for the Cougars, who out-shot the Wildcats 13-4 for the game. Dan Mangat stopped six shots in goal for Wilmington. Both teams were forced to play much of the second half and overtime with 10 men, as a player from each team was ejected from the game.

The Cougars return to action on Monday, Oct. 8 with a non-conference meeting at American International. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
