RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team tied with Felician College, 0-0 in double overtime in the final Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match for both teams Thursday afternoon at Tryon Field. With the draw, the Cougars finish the regular season at 9-5-4 overall, including a 6-1-2 conference record. The Golden Falcons are now 3-14-3, 2-5-2 CACC.
Both teams had excellent scoring chances in the extra sessions. Midway through the first overtime period, Felician's Peter Snihur blasted a shot from point-blank range, but Caldwell junior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) dove to his right and kept the ball out of the goal. In the second overtime, junior forward Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep) had a golden opportunity but his shot went over the goal.
Plaugic recorded eight saves for his seventh shutout of the season. Felician goalkeeper Paulo DosSantos also made eight saves, recording his second shutout of the year. Both teams took 20 shots, with Caldwell taking nine corner kicks to two for Felician.
The result leaves Caldwell in third place heading into next week's CACC Tournament. The Cougars will host either Felician, Bloomfield College or Post University on Monday, Oct. 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field. The Golden Falcons need Post to defeat Bloomfield on Friday to make the tourney.
