BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team dropped its second straight game, falling to C.W. Post 3-1 in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Blitz Field. The defeat gives the Cougars a 2-3 record on the season, while the Pioneers, ranked fourth in the Northeast Region, improve to 5-0.
C.W. Post opened the scoring in the 40th minute, when Dan Carlos headed home a free kick by Jose Batista for a 1-0 lead. The score remained the same until Anthony Baker scored an unassisted goal in the 81st minute to extend the Pioneers' lead to 2-0. Less than a minute later, Caldwell cut the lead in half with a goal by senior midfielder Jorge Ibarcena (Lima, Peru), his first of the season. But with the Cougars pressing forward for the equalizer, Chris Petrucci took advantage and scored in the 88th minute to restore the Pioneers' two-goal lead.
Sophomore goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) made five saves in goal for Caldwell, while Rocco Morelli made four saves for C.W. Post.
The Cougars will look to snap their losing skid on Saturday, Sept. 16, when they host St. Anselm College in a non-conference game. Kick off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
