CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's tennis team defeated Dowling College, 5-4 in a non-conference dual Sunday afternoon at the Caldwell College Tennis Courts. The win is the first of the season for the Cougars, who evened their record at 1-1. It also marks the first victory for Caldwell coach Bruce Hamburger, who is in his first season.
The Cougars won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. Senior Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) and freshman Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) combined to win their match at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, while Caldwell's No. 2 doubles tandem of senior Joellen Keaney (Oak Bluffs, MA/Martha's Vineyard Regional), pictured, and sophomore Jacquelynn Ross (Millburn, NJ/Mondeor) won 8-4.
In singles play, the Cougars received straight-set victories from Manoukian at No. 1 singles, Frantellizzi at No. 5 singles and senior Danielle O'Connell (South Amboy, NJ/St. John Vianney) at No. 6 singles.
The Cougars' next dual is at Richard Stockton College on Wednesday, Sept. 14, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
