CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team defeated Bloomfield College, 5-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. Sophomore Kevoi Walters (Clarendon, Jamaica/Clarendon) scored twice in the victory as the Cougars improved to 9-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the conference. The Deacons fall to 1-12, 0-5 CACC.

The Cougars got on the scoreboard in the 19th minute, when a long cross by junior defender Matt Broderick (West Keansburg, NJ/Raritan), pictured, from near midfield found junior Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) at the top of the penalty area. Jiras headed the ball 18 yards into the goal for his first tally of the season. Sophomore defender Asgeir Ofstad (Trondheim, Norway) knocked in a rebound off of a shot by senior forward Uke Dauti (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) in the 25th minute for a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Dauti notched his team-leading 10th goal of the season off a pass from senior forward Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway). Walters scored his first goal of the game in the 82nd minute after Skjelstad's pass allowed Walters a clear shot from the right flank. A combination of passes from sophomore forward Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep) and sophomore midfielder Jimmy Broderick (West Keansburg, NJ/Raritan) set up Walters' final goal in the 87th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) and freshman netminder Matt Haley (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) shared the shutout, with Plaugic recording the only save for Caldwell. Bloomfield's Dennis Amoateng made 11 saves as the Cougars out-shot the Deacons 35-3 on the day.

The Cougars, who have completed conference play, will travel to Syracuse, N.Y., to face Le Moyne College in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
